Living at Fenner

Fenner Hall, a residential hall of the Australian National University, is a thriving, diverse, learning community. Fenner is made up of some 500 students studying in a multiplicity of academic disciplines. Our residents come from all over Australia and all around the world. We are supportive, friendly, diverse and very energetic!

Your Room

Your room at Fenner Hall is well equipped. Each room is provided with a bed and high quality mattress, a study area incorporating a desk, bookshelves and Internet connection, and a dressing area with large cupboards, drawers and a basin with hot and cold water. The rooms, and the entire Hall, are centrally heated. Each room has a full voice mail system that allows you to call anyone in Hall for free, and a full answering machine service that is used to keep you in touch with events around Hall.

Each room at Fenner has an Ethernet connection installed. Residents are able to connect their personal computers to the ANU network including the library. Internet services available in-room includes Web Access, Telnet and E-mail. A Computer Assistant is available to assist residents to connect their computer to the network.

Your Floor

Each floor has its own kitchenette with instant boiling water outlet, microwave, toaster, fridge and recycling facilities. It is a great place to sit and read the paper or catch up with people from the floor. In addition, each floor has recently refurbished bathrooms, free laundry facilities (and a brilliant drying room) and a baggage room, so you don't have to keep your suitcases in your room.

The basis of life that flows through Fenner can be found on each floor. You will get to know the 25 people you share a floor with better than most people in Hall. You all share bathrooms, a laundry, and a kitchenette. Floor parties and functions are also usually arranged 3 times a semester for residents to get to know each other socially. Fenner functions as an adult community and we put a lot of work into making your immediate home - your floor - as supportive and comfortable as possible without being intrusive.

Kitchens

The Fenner Hall kitchens and dining areas are a lively place – residents can always be found at any time of the day or night cooking delicious meals from around the world and enjoying the company of fellow residents. The main kitchen and dining room is the hub of many Fenner activities.

There are 14 kitchen units each of which have facilities for up to 40 members of the Hall. Each member is given a lockable cupboard, complete with slide out shelving.  This is a convenient location in which to to keep non-perishable food, basic cutlery, crockery and some cooking utensils. Each member is also allocated a shared refrigerator and a small amount of freezer space.

Fenner Hall is a self-catered community and as such, you will need to provide your own cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

We also have a vegetable and herb garden that provides a great avenue for those of you wanting fresh vegetables and herbs...or even just some flowers.

Laundry

Laundries are provided for members on each floor. A drying room is also available on every floor. Irons and ironing boards are available on each floor.
